Memorial Day

Sorry for the unannounced long break without posting. Kinda lost track of time with life and next thing I know it had been a week. Anyways, it is Memorial Day. In honor of those who have served the United States Military, I bring the standard issue and future weapons of the US Army. The other forces will appear in later posts. Note, the M-4 and M-16 are not included because the they are very similar and there is already an article about the M-16 here. Hope you like this. M9 Pistol
The M9 Pistol - Sidearm of American Soldiers

  • semiautomatic
  • 9 mm
  • 15 round magazine
  • made by Beretta
  • Came into use in the late 1980's
  • Praised for its durability and accuracy
  • A modified version of the pistol, the M9A1, has been in use by American soldiers since 2006. This newer version of the gun allows soldiers’ to attach lights, lasers and other sighting mechanisms.

"Although still widely used by American soldiers, the M9 pistol has encountered problems and been criticized by some in the military. During the early 1990s, the pistol encountered mechanical defects. Specifically, the springs in the gun’s magazine malfunctioned. Controversy arose from the fact that the U.S. Army did not purchase magazines directly from Beretta, the gun’s manufacturer. In several cases, magazines have had to be replaced on the M9 pistol. Despite these setbacks, the M9 and M9A1 continue to be the primary sidearm of American soldiers. In 2009, Beretta announced that it had secured a contract worth $200 million to supply the U.S. military with 450,000 of the handguns through the year 2015."

M110 Sniper Rifle

  • Semi-Automatic
  • Caliber: 7.62 x51mm
  • 10 and 20 round magazine
  • The M110 was initially deployed for active use by U.S. Army soldiers in Afghanistan in April 2007.
  • Developed by Knight's Armament Company of Titusville, Florida
  • effective range of 1,000 meters
  • weighs 16 pounds w/o magazine.
  • The U.S. Army ranked the M110 No. 2 on its list of top 10 inventions of 2007.
  • Meant to replace the M24 Sniper Weapon System:
The main differences between the Mk 11 and M110 are improvements suggested by a user group meeting between NAVSOC, USASOC and USA in 2007:
  • The rail system used: the KAC Free Floated RAS on the Mk 11 is replaced by a URX modular rail system with integral folding front 600 meter back-up iron sight.
  • The M110 buttstock: fixed, though the buttplate is adjustable for length of pull to match user preferences. Adjustment can be made without tools via a notched hand-tightened knob on the right-hand side of the stock. This feature was added during the change from XM110 to M110. The fixed buttstock also features integral quick-detachable sling swivel sockets located on each side of the stock near the rear of the lower receiver.
  • The addition of a flash hider to the barrel of the M110, which also necessitates a modified QD Suppressor unit similar to that on the Mk 11.
  • The M110's use of KAC's one-piece 30 mm scope mount instead of two separate scope rings.

1911

S&W 1911

  • The Browning-designed 1911 pistol was first tested in combat in Mexico in 1916.
  • During one legendary engagement Sergeant Alvin York used a Model 1911 pistol to stop an attack by six German soldiers with as many shots, in the process winning the Medal of Honor.
  • The post-WWI era saw subtle refinements to the basic Model 1911 design including the addition of improved sights, an arched mainspring housing, shorter trigger, longer grip safety spur and other ergonomic improvements.
  • Collectively these improvements were completed in 1924 and resulted in the Model 1911A1.
  • Total military production of the Model 1911 was nearly 3 million pistols during WWII
  • While the Modern Technique is adaptable to most handguns, the ideal instrument to exploit its full effectiveness is the .45 ACP Model 1911 – a pistol with the power, accuracy and reliability to prevail in a confrontation.
  • Two more Medals of Honor were awarded in 1993 to US Delta Force operators, Master Sergeant Gary Gordon and Sergeant First Class Randall Shughart, for their actions in Somalia, which were later immortalized in the book and motion picture “Black Hawk Down.” After Shughart was fatally wounded, Gordon continued his fight to the death using a 1911 to protect one of the wounded helicopter pilots.
  • today the 1911 design remains the world-wide standard for competition pistols.
  •
As of this year, Smith & Wesson has discontinued all previous versions of its existing SW1911s, except for three SKUs that will remain cataloged to meet California's legal requirements. The rest of the original-generation SW1911s will now be replaced by the E-Series, which will initially be available in four basic models.
The entry-level Model SW1911 full-size five inch will be offered in stainless steel only at an MSRP of $924. The full-size stainless Model SW1911CT will include a Crimson Trace LaserGrip and is priced at $1,085. The full-size Model SW1911TA (Tactical Accessory) will include an integrated 1913-spec Picatinny rail, with your choice of all-stainless or black Melonite finish, both costing $1,324. The Commander-size Model SW1911SC (Scandium Carry) features a 41/4-inch barrel; lightweight, round-butt, black Scandium-alloy frame; and choice of black Melonite stainless slide or two-tone with black frame and natural matte stainless slide. Both finishes go for $1,372.

The sights on the SW1911 and SW1911CT have white dots; the SW1911TA and SW1911SC have tritium night sights. Full-size E-Series pistols come with two eight-round magazines with buttpads. The more compact SW1911SC comes with one seven-round flush-fit magazine and one eight-round magazine with buttpad.

and finally. the gun I will be obtaining some time before August for home defense and recreation. Though I am under 21, in FL I can still own and posses a weapon on my property, I just can't purchase it.  Fun fact: gun licensing is not required in FL. However a C&C license does require a person to be 21, so I'll have to wait a few more months for that.

this one:

Regular Price:  $1,049.99

or this one
.

Apologies if this article seems sub-par. I am currently battling a sudden onset of.. something. can't breathe easily, have a massive headache, and a relentless feeling of fatigue. so.. I'm going to sleep now.

The Ultralight Carry

Sorry I've been really busy with life recently, and still am. Just dropping in for a second to post what I've found while browsing the internet in search of an alternative to a Beretta or S&W 1911.

Overview-
"The new Ultralight Carry was designed from the beginning to be the ultimate full-size carry pistol. The foundation is a fully machined aluminum frame for reduced weight. When combined with the carry cuts, ball endmill cuts, round butt frame, concealment beavertail grip safety and hammer, the Ultralight Carry is over 1/2 pound lighter than a comparable steel frame pistol. Experts agree the ultimate carry pistol must be as light as possible while maintaining the shoot-ability of a 5" pistol. The Ultralight Carry is handcrafted with all the features imperative in a daily use pistol. To reduce the profile and improve comfort, we have incorporated our new concealment beavertail grip safety, a round butt frame and carry cuts / ball endmill cuts on the slide. The slide stop post has been countersunk to allow the use of laser grips completing the features necessary in a daily concealed carry pistol."

Should have a story for each category of BB&Bugattis up by Thursday night. Look forward to the FN FAL, Jaguar's prototype, and more hot girls
EDIT: sorry some things came up (....again....) and I'll have the new stories up tomorrow/Friday night.
